Tweet Daily Finance, an AOL website, recently ran an article 3 Top Black Businesspeople Reflect on the Keys to Their Success that asked the highly successful leaders, “What does it takes to ‘make it’ in the business world?” The article, by Barbara Thau, features interviews with (Barbara) B. Smith, the first African American woman to sell a home furnishings line nationwide; Lisa Price, CEO of Carol’s Daughter, an organic skincare and haircare line, and the founder of BET (Black Entertainment Television) Robert Johnson. Small business spending highest in four years, hiring also up

Tweet In yet another sign that small business and consumer confidence is slowly – but steadily – growing, 28 percent of small business owners in a recent Wells Fargo/Gallup Poll say they’ll invest more this year in computers, equipment and other capital expenditures. That’s the highest level since 2008, according to the survey. And that’s not just talk, 24 percent of those small business owners have already increased capital spending over the last 12 months. A jump from 19 percent in Oct. 2011, the survey found. That 24 percent level is the highest level of capital spending since April 2008.
